$1 million Malibu Moon colt tops Keeneland April sale

Malibu Moon

Malibu Moon had his second sales-topper of 2014 at the Keeneland April 2-year-old sale on Monday when a colt by the Spendthrift stallion brought an even $1 million at the one-day auction.

Malibu Moon also had the top seller at the Fasig-Tipton Florida 2014 Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale, with a colt that brought $1.2 million. He has had a total of three juveniles sell for seven figures during this year's 2-year-old auction season.

The partnership of Gainesway, Mt. Brilliant Farm, and Robert LaPenta were the winning bidders for hip No. 55, who was consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent.

“He moved over the ground really well,” said Antony Beck of Gainesway, on the colt's pre-sale breeze of 9 4/5 seconds. “He just skipped along effortlessly. He had great action and he’s a large horse so hopefully he’ll win some stakes for us.”

The chestnut colt is out of Tap Your Heels, the dam of Grade 1 winner and leading sire Tapit. Tap Your Heels, by Unbridled, is a full sister to the champion sprinter Rubiano.
