$1.2 million Malibu Moon colt tops Fasig-Tipton Florida sale

Malibu Moon's offspring continued to be a hot 2014 auction commodity, with a colt by the Spendthrift stallion bringing a sales-topping $1.2 million at the March 24 Fasig-Tipton Florida sale.

Coolmore with Demi O'Byrne, in attendance with Michael Tabor, signed the ticket for hip No. 126 which was consigned by Hoby and Layna Kight, agent. The bay colt, a half brother to 3-year-old Please Explain, winner of the Suncoast S. last month at Tampa Bay Downs breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 flat at the March 21 under-tack preview.

"I love the horse," said Hoby after the sale. "When I bought him at Keeneland (for $200,000 at the 2013 September Yearling sale), I was shaking when I signed the ticket I was so excited. I never dreamed I could get him. All winter I said, 'If you don't like him, you just don't love horses.'

"I believe he's as good as any horse I've ever had," Hoby added. "He has the constitution to be a great horse. I believe in my heart that he's going to win something big. He'll get a chance."

Malibu Moon gross receipts at the one-day event were $1,870,000 with three horses sold, for an average of $623,333.
