A trio of Malibu Moon fillies and mares filled out the top three spots in the $100,000 Maryland Racing Media S. on Presidents' Day at Laurel Park, with Ilikecandy scoring by a decisive seven lengths over Malibu Red, who was 2 1/2-lengths on top Lunar Surge (VIDEO).

Ilikecandy, who had the lead for the entire nine furlong trip, steadily increased her margin throughout the contest to win with ease as the 6-5 favorite. The winner is trained by Graham Motion for Robert V. LaPenta.

“I wanted to get a good spot early and I was able to,” winning jockey Alex Cintron said. “We stayed off the rail and out of trouble. This is a very nice filly that will get better the farther she goes. I was comfortable and confident today and when we closed at the quarter pole I was making sure she’d be ready to go farther next time.”

Four-year-old Ilikecandy upped her mark to an excellent 3-2-0 in five starts, earning $129,940. She is out of the Grade 3 winner Real Candy, by Real Quiet and was a $170,000 purchase by LaPenta at the 2011 Saratoga Select Yearling sale.

Malibu Moon is once again off to a great start this year, currently sitting atop the 2014 General Sire list with $1.1 million in progeny earnings and three stakes winners to date, including Grade 2 winners Onlyforyou (Jan. 25 Forward Gal S.) and Noble Moon (Jan. 4 Jerome S.).
