$800K Malibu Moon colt highlights day 2 at Keeneland

Shadwell Estate was the high bidder on an $800,000 colt by Malibu Moon during Tuesday’s second session of the Sept. 14-26 Keeneland September Yearling sale, one of three lots by the stalwart Spendthrift stallion that brought at least $500,000 during the first two days of the auction.

Hip No. 414, consigned by Gainesway, agent the Shadwell colt was one of the top five priced males during Tuesday’s session. The colt is out of Lotta Kim, dam of the incomparable Rachel Alexandra, and a stakes winner in her own right.

During Monday’s session, hip No. 66, consigned by Taylor Made Sales as agent for Spendthrift Farm, went for $500,000 to Juddmonte Farms. The colt is out of Santa Ynez S. (G2) winner Alpha Kitten and is from the same family as Grade 1 winner Marylebone. Hip No. 446 brought the same winning bid, this time from Castleton Lyons. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales, the filly is a half-sister to Wood Memorial (G1) winner I Want Revenge.

Hip No. 213, a filly consigned by Bridie Harrison on behalf of Peter Blum, went to Let’s Go Stable for $435,000. The filly’s dam, Déjà vu, is a half-sister to millionaire and Grade 1 winner Madcap Escapade and another Grade 1 winner in Dubai Escapade. 

Taylor Made and Spendthrift teamed up again on hip No. 326, a filly which went to Niall Brennan, buying on behalf of Marc Keller, for $300,000. The filly’s dam, Hour Glass, won the Grade 2 Vagrancy H. 

Through two days of the marathon auction, Malibu Moon has a sales average of $347,778.
