Achilles Warrior debuts in style at Saratoga

Achilles Warrior definitely looked like a horse with a promising future in his racing debut Aug. 22 at Saratoga.

The 2-year-old Warrior's Reward colt overcame a less than ideal trip and his inexperience with a sharp 2 1/2-length win in the $85,000 maiden special weight affair at 5 1/2-furlongs.

Never more than four lengths from the leaders, Achilles Warrior was well off the rail on the turn, then commenced to make up ground in the stretch. He eventually wore down the pacesetter Tapizars Secret to take over the lead with a sixteenth to run, then drew off in hand late to get the distance in 1:04.98 on a fast track.

The winner is owned by David Merjan and was bred by JSM Equine LLC. He is the third foal, all winners, out of S S Pinafore, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Southdale.

Warrior's Reward is among the leading sires of his generation by stakes horses and wins. This year, Exclusivo  (G2), Axlerod (G3) and Warrior's Club (G3) are some of his six stakes winners to date.
