Archarcharch colt brings $250,000 at OBS

Archarcharch sired his highest-priced progeny to date, when a first-crop colt sold for $250,000 opening day at the OBS Spring Sale.

Hip 137, a robust bay out of Tale of the Kitty, by Tale of the Cat, worked in :10.1 at the April 13th breeze show, and was the third highest-priced juvenile overall on Day One. Bred in Kentucky by Phillip Hunter and Clare Hager, he was consigned by Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables, and purchased by Arnold Zetcher.

Zetcher attended the sale with trainer Simon Callaghan, who told the media afterwards, "We loved him. We loved his preview. He is a very well-grown, mature 2-year-old. And he looks like he'll be top-drawer at Del Mar."

Archarcharch has had 13 two-year-olds in training sell already this year, for an average price of $71,385, more than seven times the bred-on fee. The Grade 1 winner has 123 registered two-year-olds in his first crop, and his first starter is entered in the second race at Keeneland today. Archarcharch is standing the 2015 season for $9,000 live foal.
