Big Saturday for Spendthrift Sophomore Sires

Saturday, February 23, 2013

Spendthrift’s second-crop sire Notional received another winner when 3-year-old filly Jennie Says So scored a 1 ¼-length victory in a $45,000 maiden special weight Saturday, Feb. 23 at Parx Racing.

The multiple graded stakes-winning Notional was a leading freshman sire in 2012 with 50% winners from starters. His first crop was led by $50,000 stakes winner Risky Call, and he has been bred to over 100 mares each year since entering stud, including 120 mares in last year’s book. From the sire-line of the champion-producing Indian Charlie, Notional’s fee for the 2013 season is $7,500.

Into Mischief, another leading Spendthrift second-crop sire, also had an impressive maiden winner Saturday, when 3-year-old colt Erik the Red drew away to an emphatic 4 ¾-length victory as the favorite in a six-furlong $60,000 maiden special weight at Aqueduct.
