Don't Get Mad colt breaks maiden on Thanksgiving at Fair Grounds

Populist Politics maiden score at Fair Grounds on Thanksgiving was a double victory for Spendthrift; the 2-year-old colt is by their freshman sire Don't Get Mad and was bred by Spendthrift owner B. Wayne Hughes.

Populist Politics came from sixth after a quarter mile to win the six furlong sprint by 1 1/2-lengths in 1:11.37 over a fast track. He earned $22,200 in his career debut for owner Klaravich Stable Inc.

The bay colt is the first foal out of Cedar Summer, who was third as a 2-year-old in the Anna Fisher Debutante S. at Ellis Park and the Instant Racing Breeders' Cup S. at Oaklawn at three. The family also includes the multiple graded stakes winning older horse Ball Four, who set a nine furlong track record at Turfway in the Kentucky Cup Classic (G2).
