Spendthrift Farm's freshman sire Liaison, the Grade 1-winning son of Indian Charlie, was represented by his first winner on Sunday when Vicente’s Shadow overcame a troubled start and rallied strongly in the stretch to win a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight by a length at Emerald Downs June 18.
Ridden by Eswan Flores, Vicente’s Shadow steadied soon after the start, advanced three wide around the far turn and was up in the final strides to win his career debut impressively for trainer Blaine Wright. Bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall, Vicente’s Shadow, who is produced from the Corinthian mare Bronxgirl, races for Steven and Gordon Twileger.
Winner of the $750,000 CashCall Futurity (G1) at two and one of the most talented sons of his sire, Liaison won or placed in nine stakes, six of them graded, earning $767,288. He is out of the multiple stakes-winning Victory Gallop mare Galloping Gal.
Liaison stands at Spendthrift Farm for $5,000 stands and nurses.
