Freshman sire My Pal Charlie gets second MdSpWt winner

Saturday, September 07, 2013
Spendthrift’s My Pal Charlie, Louisiana’s current leading freshman sire, picked up his second Maiden Special Weight winner from his first crop of 2-year-olds when his filly Top Doll proved best in a 5 ½-furlong heat on Sept. 7 at Louisiana Downs. Fittingly, the win came on the undercard of the Grade 2 Super Derby – a race My Pal Charlie established a stakes record in during his racing career.

Bred in Louisiana by Stanley Seelig, Top Doll earned her breakthrough win in just her second start for owner Love Partnership Interests LP and trainer Karl Broberg. The bay filly hails from the Touch Gold mare D’oro Doll. My Pal Charlie stands at Elite Thoroughbreds in Folsom, La., where his 2013 stud fee was $3,000 stands and nurses.
