Five-year-old Funny Moon, Grade 1-winning daughter of Malibu Moon, was the top seller, at $2.3 million, the first evening at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November select mixed sale on Nov. 6. Funny Moon sold in foal to Indian Charlie.

Lincoln Collins, representing Leonard Riggio’s My Meadowview breeding and racing operation, bought Funny Moon, who was cataloged as hip No. 105 and consigned by Gainesway Farm.

“We very much liked the mare,” Collins said. “We only had two or three mares on our list for the sale. She was an extremely good race mare. She’s good-looking, we like Indian Charlie, and she has a very solid pedigree, so what more can I say? At this level, they’re all expensive, but it (her price) was in the ball park of what we thought she would bring.”

Funny Moon captured the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) in 2009 and the Shuvee H. (G2) in 2010 en route to earning $530,900 in her career. She is a half sister to Throng, who won the 2008 Native Dancer S. at Laurel Park and the 2007 Dr. Fager S. at Arlington Park.
