Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Archarcharch will enter stud in 2012 at B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm, it was announced Thursday, May 19th.

The handsome, nearly black multiple graded stakes winner was injured at the start of the Kentucky Derby (G1) when he stumbled leaving the gate, and then had his saddle slip. In his prior start, Archarcharch charged down the center of the track to win the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) over a stellar field that included Kentucky Derby runner-up Nehro and The Factor.

Earlier this season, Archarcharch (Arch—Woodman’s Dancer, by Woodman) won the $250,000 Southwest S. (G3) over a mile at Oaklawn, and ran third in the $300,000 Rebel S. (G3). Last year as a 2-year-old, he broke his maiden in the $60,000 Sugar Bowl S. at Fair Grounds. Racing for Robert and Loval Yagos and trained throughout his career by Williams “Jinks” Fires, Archarcharch retires with a record of 7-3-1-1 and earnings of $832,744.

“We are delighted with the addition of Archarcharch to our stallion roster,” said Spendthrift General Manager Ned Toffey. “He is a big, grand-looking son of Arch from a great family, and it is particularly noteworthy that he broke his maiden at two sprinting and then went on to win the Arkansas Derby at nine furlongs. He also gave every indication that he'd handle a Classic distance. We're glad to have him and we intend to support him strongly with our own broodmare band.”

A stud fee will be determined and announced at a later date.
