Spendthrift Farm’s Shakin It Up, the first horse in 40 years to win Santa Anita’s Malibu (G1), Strub (G2), and San Vicente (G2) stakes, sired his first reported foal late Wednesday, January 6th when a colt was born at Brandywine Farm in Paris, KY.

Bred by Jim and Pam Robinson, the dark bay or brown colt is out of the Malibu Moon mare Moonshine Bertie, whose dam is graded stakes winner Thunder Bertie.
“The colt is long legged, very correct and extremely good looking,” said Pam Robinson. “We are very excited.”
Shakin It Up began his career by breaking his maiden as a 2-year-old at Santa Anita in 1:09.45, before winning the San Vicente S. (G2) in 1:22.48 in the first start of his 3-year-old season. He earned his biggest career victory later at three in Santa Anita’s Malibu S. (G1), stopping the clock in a swift 1:20.53 and earning a 106 Beyer.
As a 4-year-old, Shakin It Up stretched out around two turns to win the Strub S. (G2) in 1:41.86, and went on the road to finish a narrow runner-up in the Churchill Downs S. (G2) on Kentucky Derby Day.
Shakin It Up is a product of two of Mike Pegram’s greatest Breeders’ Cup-winning champions. He’s the most accomplished son of Midnight Lute – champion and back-to-back Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner, and he’s out of Silver Bullet Moon – daughter of two-time champion and Hall of Famer Silverbulletday.
Shakin It Up is set to stand his second season for a fee of $10,000 S&N, and is available through Spendthrift’s “Breed Secure” program in 2016.
