Goldencents a 'Rising Star' after debut romp

Into Mischief

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Into Mischief's Goldencents made his first start look easy with a 7 1/4-length score Sept. 2 at Del Mar [VIDEO], zipping the 5 1/2-furlongs in 1:02.79, just .09 off the track record. The bay colt, who was tagged a TDN “Rising Star” for the effort, is the fifth winner in just nine starters for his sire, with every one of them coming in maiden special weight contests.

Goldencents, the 8-5 favorite off a string of fast works in the a.m., showed his speed from the inside right when the gates sprang open. After being pressed through the first two furlongs, the eventual winner started to pull away on the turn, then really distanced himself from the field in the stretch without Kevin Krigger asking his mount for his best.

Bred in Kentucky by Rosecrest Farm and Karyn Pirrello, Goldencents was a $62,000 auction at the OBS April horses of racing age sale in April. The colt's granddam is Body Works, who won 13 stakes and hit the board in 16 others in a 45-race career.
