Spendthrift Farm’s Goldencents, the back-to-back Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner by Into Mischief, sired his first reported foal Thursday, January 14th when a filly was born at Le Mesa Farm in Carencro, Louisiana.

Bred by Dale Ladner, the filly is out of the Gold Tribute mare Scarlet Tribute, a multiple stakes-placed juvenile on the track.

“It was a thrill for me to be in on the ground floor with Into Mischief, and now I look forward to having the same success with his best son, Goldencents,” said Ladner, who bred and recently campaigned Sittin At The Bar, a nine-time stakes winner of $705,896 from the first crop of Into Mischief. Ladner participated in Spendthrift’s "Share The Upside" program on both Into Mischief in 2009 and Goldencents in 2015.

An earner of $3,044,000, Goldencents won seven races and was runner-up in seven others from two to four, with three Grade 1 victories that included becoming the only back-to-back winner of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) in 2013 and 2014.

As a 2-year-old, Goldencents broke his maiden impressively in his debut before shipping across the country to run second behind champion Shanghai Bobby in the Champagne S. (G1). He closed out his juvenile campaign with a victory in the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot (G3).

Goldencents kicked off his sophomore season with a win in the Sham S. (G3) before becoming a top Kentucky Derby contender with his victory in the prestigious Santa Anita Derby (G1). Later at three, he developed into one of the top sprinters and milers in the country, culminating with his first Breeders’ Cup score.

At four, Goldencents set a new track record at Del Mar while winning the Pat O’Brien S. (G2), clocking seven furlongs in 1:20.99. He was also runner-up in the Met Mile (G1), Bing Crosby S. (G1), and Santa Anita Sprint Championship S. (G1) for the second straight year. Goldencents would retire sound to Spendthrift after capturing his second Breeders’ Cup victory for trainer Doug O’Neill and owners Glenn Sorgenstein and Josh Kaplan of W.C. Racing.

By leading sire Into Mischief, Goldencents covered 179 mares in his first season at stud in 2015, marking the third most mares bred by a first-year stallion in North America. He’s set to stand his second season in 2016 for a fee of $15,000 S&N.
