Sunday, July 22, 2012

Spendthrift Farm's Beholder looked very sharp Sunday at Del Mar, drawing off to 3 1/4-length win to break her maiden [Video] going 5 1/2-furlongs in 1:03.78 over the Polytrack. The filly is a half-sister to Spendthrift's freshman sire Into Mischief, whose first winner broke her maiden by 8 1/2-lengths.

Beholder sold to Spendthrift at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale, going for $180,000, the second-highest price of the year at auction for her sire. She was bred in Kentucky by Clarkland Farm and trained by Richard Mandella.
