Into Mischief's fee raised to $10,000

Thursday, December 13, 2012

B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm has announced a raise in stud fee for its leading freshman sire Into Mischief, who will now stand for $10,000 stands and nurses during the 2013 breeding season.

“Into Mischief is having a terrific year with his first crop of 2-year-olds, and the demand from breeders has been overwhelming,” said Ned Toffey, General Manager of Spendthrift.

Into Mischief, who currently ranks as the No. 2 First-Crop Sire standing in North American, has already sired three two-year-old stakes winners from limited starters, including a pair of graded stakes horses. By 2012 Leading Juvenile Sire Harlan's Holiday, Into Mischief is one of two Grade 1-winning juveniles out of his dam Leslie's Lady, who is also the dam of 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) champion Beholder.

“The fact that he's already had 3 stakes winners from just 21 two-year-old starters has gotten a lot of attention, and all 3 stakes winners have run fast numbers at top racetracks,” said Ken Wilkins, Spendthrift's Stallion Director.

Into Mischief's 2-year-old colt Goldencents marked his first stakes winner in a big way after winning the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot S. (G3) last month. Goldencents was tabbed as a TDN Rising Star after breaking his maiden first-time out by 7 ¼ lengths at Del Mar in September, earning a 93 Beyer Speed Figure. His only defeat was a runner-up finish to Shanghai Bobby in the Champagne S. (G1) at Belmont.

Sittin At the Bar, Into Mischief's other graded stakes performer, recently captured the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie by a resounding 8 lengths on Saturday, earning the 2-year-old filly an 88 Beyer. After breaking her maiden first-time out by 7 ¾ lengths in August, Sittin At the Bar was second in the $150,000 My Trusty Cat S. and third in the Delta Downs Princess S. (G3) in her other three starts prior to winning the Lassie.

Sunday capped off a big weekend for Into Mischief, when he picked up his third stakes winner to date in the form of a 5 3/4-length romp in the Traskwood S. at Aqueduct by undefeated 2-year-old Vyjack. Also a winner first-time out last month at Aqueduct, Vyjack's dominating win in the Traskwood S. earned him a 96 Beyer in just his second career start.

Into Mischief's three stakes winners, two graded stakes horses and one graded stakes winner comes from 21 two-year-old starters to date, giving him a crop-leading 14.3% stakes winners from runners. Into Mischief, who himself was a Grade 1-winning juvenile, currently sits No. 2 on the First-Crop Sires List among stallions standing in North America with progeny earnings of $1,087,849, which gives him $51,802 average earnings per runner already from his first 2-year-olds.
