Keeneland yearling sale: Spendthrift first crop sires report

Yearlings from the first crop of three Spendthrift stallions have shown strong results through the middle of the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale. Tiz Wonderful, Into Mischief, and Notional have each had at least one yearling sell for more than 10 times their 2011 advertised stud fees.

Tiz Wonderful has had a very strong sale, with seven horses topping the six figure mark, including a pair of colts bringing $150,000. Hip No. 1757, consigned by Paramount Sales, agent, went to Jay Em Ess Stable. Not long after, hip No. 1804 went through the ring from the consignment of St. George Sale, agent. The chestnut colt was bought by Sean Feld as agent for Malibu Farm, and his dam Equity Event is a half-sister to three stakes winners.

A colt by Into Mischief brought $105,000 from trainer Kenny McPeek, who bought the bay, hip No. 2435, from Warrendale Sales X. The colt's black type page includes Grade 1 winners Martial Law and Lujain.

Notional's top seller thus far has been hip No. 2480, a chestnut colt consigned by Miacomet Farm Ltd., agent for Fletcher and Carolyn Gray's Grayson Farm. The winning bidder for the gray colt was EQB Inc., agent, who went to $90,000 for the yearling who comes from the same family as champion older horse Left Bank.
