Malibu Moon's 4-year-old filly Shimmering Aspen hit her best stride inside the final sixteenth of a mile to win the $75,000 Timonium Distaff on Saturday afternoon.
A two-time stakes winner last year, Shimmering Aspen now has six wins in 11 starts and has earned $233,110 for Hillwood Stable.
For Malibu Moon, Shimmering Aspen is his ninth stakes winner and 25th black type horse this year.
Behind the leaders for the first five furlongs, Shimmering Aspen swung three wide into the stretch then surged past Munificent in deep stretch to win by a length in 1:16.95 for the “about” 6 1/2-furlongs.
The winner was bred by Nancy Terhune, Ernest Frohboese and Candyland Farm. She is out of Aspenglow, a four-time stakes winner of nearly a half-million dollars.
