Moonlight Romance got her first career stakes win in Saturday's $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Turf Sprint S., pulling clear late to win the 6 1/2-furlong affair by three lengths.
Trained by Wesley Ward for Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Moonlight Romance upped her record to 2-1-0 in four starts. The big payday upped her earnings to $358,000, making her the top earner for Second-Crop sire Liaison.
Getting away from the gate very quickly from her outside post in the field of 10, Moonlight Romance took the early lead, but then allowed Sovereign Impact to set the pace as the field made its way around the sweeping far turn.
At the head of the stretch, Moonlight Romance reclaimed the top spot and quickly opened up. A very late charge from Life Mission posed no serious threat as the winner stopped the timer in 1:17.91 on the “good” turf.
Moonlight Romance was bred by Spendthrift Farm from the Malibu Moon mare Envious Moon.
