Malibu Moon 2-year-olds highlight OBS March sale

A $1.3 million colt and $700,000 filly by Malibu Moon were two of the top-five hammer prices at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. selected sale of 2-year-olds in training March 11.

Hip No. 230, a colt consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, went to Demi O’Byrne. The $1.3 million price is the highest ever paid at auction for a Malibu Moon 2-year-old.

The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of Layreebelle, by Tale of the Cat, a daughter of graded stakes winner Voodoo Lily, and is a half brother to recent La Canada Stakes (G2) winner Spellbound.

Mark Casse, Agent, was the high bidder for hip No. 408, named Make the Sun Shine, the filly was consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent. The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on Saturday, is out of graded stakes winner Sunshine for Life.
