Malibu Moon colt brings second-highest price at Keeneland 2YO sale

Monday, April 5, 2010
The offspring of Malibu Moon have brought big prices all spring during the 2-year-old sales season, and the Keeneland April sale was no exception.  A colt by the Spendthrift stallion brought a final hammer price of $575,000, the second-highest price of the one-day sale held on Apr. 5 at the historic Kentucky track. He was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida.

The chestnut colt, Hip No. 135, was consigned by Wavertree Stables Inc. He is out of Whirlwind Charlott, who was second in the Grade 3 Sorority S. She comes from the same family as Grade 1 winners Behrens and Commentator and Grade 2 winner Cowboy Cal.

At the under tack preview show on Apr. 1, the powerfully built colt gobbled up the ground with big strides to stop the clock in :20 4/5 seconds (VIDEO).
