Malibu Moon colt dominates at Tampa

Saturday, January 22, 2011
Stretching out to two turns proved to be just the right thing for Moonhanger as he romped home an 11 length winner to break his maiden in his second lifetime start, at Tampa Bay Downs on Jan. 22. A 3-year-old colt by Malibu Moon, Moonhanger checked in fourth in his debut at six furlongs at Monmouth Park last November.

This time would certainly be different for the dark bay or brown colt. He got a challenge from Breaking Ball for the first six furlongs, but shook that foe off going into the far turn and drew away with authority in the stretch.

Moonhanger is owned and trained by Bruce Alexander. Bred in Kentucky by Stud TNT, Moonhanger was bought by Alexander at the 2009 OBS Select yearling sale. He is a half brother to the Brazilian champion 3-year-old colt New Export.
