Malibu Moon

Sunday, December 08, 2013
Crushed Velvet, a Malibu Moon filly bred by Spendthrift Farm, cruised to a dominating 5 1/2-length victory in her career debut Sunday at Hollywood Park (VIDEO). The regally-bred 2-year-old is out of a half-sister to champion sprinter Midnight Lute.

Trained by Bob Baffert for Peachtree Stable, Crushed Velvet zipped through the 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight affair in 1:16.71. Peachtree, owned by John Fort, purchased the Kentucky-bred filly for $220,000 at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Yearling sale.

Malibu Moon, currently North America's fourth-leading sire of 2013, will stand the 2014 season at Spendthrift for $95,000.
