Malibu Moon filly brings $1.35 million at Keeneland

A filly by venerable Spendthrift stallion Malibu Moon brought a price of $1,350,000 to become the second-highest-priced yearling of the first session of the Keeneland September Yearling sale Sept. 9 in Lexington.

The filly, hip No. 80 consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales, is out of Hollywood Story, a daughter of Wild Rush who earned $1.7 million and won the Hollywood Starlet and Vanity Invitational, both Grade 1 stakes at Hollywood Park. The winning bidder was Northwest Stud.

"We fell in love with her and went all the way," said Frank Diaz, who works for the filly's future trainer Giuseppe Iadisernia. "We have over 100 broodmares and about five stallions, and the racing horses as well. We breed to sell and to race," he said.
