Malibu Moon gets 12th stakes winner of 2011

Saturday, October 15, 2011
Moonlit Malibu led the entire seven furlong trip of the $50,000 HBPA Mayors H. Oct. 4 at Charles Town (VIDEO) to become the 12th stakes winner of the year for her sire Malibu Moon. The 3-year-old filly was second earlier this summer in the $75,000 Dearly Precious S. at Monmouth Park.

Malibu Moon is North America's fourth-ranked sire, with over $6.4 million in progeny earnings.

Moonlit Malibu went right to the front at the start of the HBPA, opening a length and a half and keeping that margin for the entire trip. The filly, owned by Country Life Farm, finished the distance in 1:25.62 over a “good” main track.

Bred in Kentucky by D J Stable and Spendthrift Farm owner B. Wayne Hughes, Moonlit Malibu is now 5-5-1 in 14 starts, earning $190,855. Out of the unraced mare As Long as Ittakes, Moonlit Malibu is a half sister to the stakes winner Wait It Out.
