Malibu Moon's number of stakes horses on the rise

Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Malibu Moon sired his 21st stakes performer of the year on August 23rd, when Malibu Moon Dance ran second in the Bennington Stakes at Saratoga.

This was the ninth major stakes horse by Malibu Moon since July 17th, a span that saw him sire four Graded stakes winners, two Grade I winners.

The numbers alone are outstanding, but the versatility of his progeny is even more impressive. The stakes horses of the past five weeks have won or placed at 5 ½ furlongs, 6 ½ furlongs, 8 furlongs, 9 furlongs, and 10 furlongs, on dirt, turf and all-weather surfaces. Two won Grade I’s at Saratoga; one took a Grade 2 at Delaware; another won a Grade 3 at Del Mar.

Malibu Moon is en route to his best siring year yet, having already sired $6,000,000 in progeny earnings with four months to go. Ranked third among all North American Leading Sires, he has eight stakes winners, six Graded stakes winners, and three Grade I winners thus far.
