Multiple Grade 1 winner Tizway sired his first foal early Wednesday morning when a dark bay or brown filly was born at Lynn Alexander's Alastar Farm in Nicholasville, KY.

Bred by Alastar Thoroughbred Company, LLC, the filly is also the first foal out of the winning Empire Maker mare Spanish Empiress, who hails from a rich Phipps female family with several Grade 1 winners and multiple champions under the first three dams.

“This filly is extremely athletic-looking and just a nice individual all around. She has really good size and bone, and you can already tell she's very bright. She popped right up and acted as if she'd been here all along,” said Ramona Good, farm manager and pedigree expert at Alastar. “One of the exciting things about this filly, in my opinion, is that she's inbred 5x3 to the blue hen Stick to Beauty.”

The filly was bred as a result of Alastar participating in Spendthrift's “Share The Upside” program for Tizway, where the breeder earns a lifetime breeding right in the stallion for breeding a mare the first two years on a stands & nurses basis. Alastar has booked Trendy Lady, a Graded stakes-placed daughter of Unbridled's Song currently in-foal to Malibu Moon, to Tizway for 2013, Good confirmed.

Tizway, who bred 121 mares in his first book at stud in 2012, was one of the fastest Metropolitan Handicap (G1) winners of all time, winning the prestigious one-mile race in 2011 in a time of 1:32.90. Tizway also impressively captured the 2011 Whitney H. (G1) at Saratoga, and earned $1,359,274 on the track.

By Tiznow, Tizway will stand his second season in 2013 at Spendthrift for a fee of $25,000 stands and nurses.
