Friday, August 3, 2012

Spendthrift Farm freshman sire Notional sired his first winner when 2-year-old filly Happy Patsy streaked to an easy 5 3/4-length win as the favorite in a maiden race at Evangeline Downs on August 3rd.

Bred by William D. Pickett, the chestnut filly is out of the Real Quiet mare Shezarealquietlady, a full sister to four-time stakes winner Quiet Cash. Happy Patsy is trained by Carl Deville for owner Pegasus Stables LLC.

Notional was a top miler on the racetrack, winning the San Rafael S. (G2) and Risen Star S. (G3) at middle distances as a 3-year-old before returning to capture the Salvator Mile H. (G3) as a 4-year-old.

By In Excess (Ire) – also the sire of the late Indian Charlie, Notional was a precocious 2-year-old, having won his debut at Santa Anita with a 105 Beyer Speed Figure, one of the fastest performances by a juvenile in 2006. He retired with earnings of $733,240.

Notional stands at B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, KY. His fee in 2012 was $7,500, stands and nurses.
