My Happy Face smiles again at Belmont

Thursday, June 13, 2013

My Happy Face, a 3-year-old filly from the first crop of Tiz Wonderful, made a triumphant comeback on Thursday, June 13th, winning the $90,000 Lotka S. at Belmont Park (WATCH RACE). The classy gray filly was a graded stakes winner last year in New York as a 2-year-old, and she started her 3-year-old career with a runner-up finish in the Forward Gal S. (G2) at Gulfstream.

My Happy Face was knocked out of contention for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and forced to take a four-month layoff after being struck with a virus earlier this year. With over $250,000 in earnings now to her credit, she's returned on top of her game and is set up for a big second half of the year.

Thursday, My Happy Face broke well and settled just off the pacesetter early on in the one-mile event. She made her move around the big, sweeping Belmont turn and cleared the field to splash home a decisive winner over the sloppy local track. The final time was a solid 1:35 4/5, and she earned her third win for owner Michael Dubb - and first for new trainer Chad Brown.
