Risky Call's 5 1/2-length romp in the $50,000 Canadian Juvenile on Oct. 8 gave freshman sire Notional his first stakes winner from his initial crop. Risky Call has never been worse than second in five lifetime starts and has won his last three starts.
Risky Call led at every point of call for the one mile Juvenile, but had plenty of company for the first six furlongs, locked into a spirited duel with Tony the Tank. The gray Kentucky-bred put that foe away on the final turn, then quickly left the rest of the field to battle it out for the minor placings.
Bred in Kentucky by Windwoods Farm and Will Roden, Risky Call is one of four winners out of Judith's Gamble, a seven-time winner of $127,726.
Risky Call is Notional's leading money earner, boosting the Spendthrift stallion into the top 25 on the Freshman Sire list. A graded stakes winner at three and four, Notional broke his maiden and was third in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue S. at two. He stood the 2012 season for $7,500 LFS&N.
