Tuesday, August 12, 2014

A yearling colt by Paddy O'Prado with "Kentucky Derby" stamped all over his pedigree, sold for $135,000 at the Saratoga New York Bred Preferred Sale on August 9th.

Catalogued as Hip 268 during the opening session of the two-day venue, the gray/roan yearling was purchased by Denlea Park from the consignment of Bluewater Sales.

The colt is from the first crop by millionaire Grade 1 winner and Kentucky Derby-third Paddy O'Prado. He is a half brother to Graded stakes winner Spice Island, dam of Kentucky Derby runner-up Ice Box. And his dam is both a daughter of a Kentucky Derby winner (Alysheba), and half-sister to a Kentucky Derby winner (Spend a Buck).

A five-time stakes winner of $1.7 million, Paddy O'Prado covered 143 mares his first year at stud. He stood the 2014 season at Spendthrift for $15,000 live foal.
