Wednesday, May 30, 2018
Spendthrift Farm's two-time Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Goldencents sired his first winner on May 30 at Evangeline Downs when Pickett rolled to a 6 1/2-length win in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds.

Running in the colors of Charles Carlton, the dark bay came out of the gate quickly to assume command. Up a half-length after a quarter-mile in :22.93, Pickett cut the corner coming into the stretch and moved away powerfully under a hand ride by Tim Thornton. The final time was :52.87 on a fast main track (VIDEO).

Bred by his namesake William Pickett, the winner is out of Street Beat, who has produced nine winners to date, including multiple stakes winners Hisse and Ahead of Her Time.

Goldencents, a son of Spendthrift's top-class sire Into Mischief, won consecutive runnings of the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1), as well as the Santa Anita Derby (G1), and finished first or second in 11 additional graded stakes. He retired with over $3 million in earnings, making him Into Mischief's all-time leading earner.

Goldencents has been one of Spendthrift Farm's most popular young stallions of the past three years, breeding an average of 168 mares from 2016-18. He currently stands for a fee of $12,500 live foal.
