In a race that hinted at bigger things to come, the 4-year-old Warrior's Reward colt Requite rolled to a 3 1/2-length victory in Saturday's $75,000 Parrot Key S. at Gulfstream Park, a race that serves as the local prep for the $250,000 Smile Sprint S. (G2) on July 2.
Requite was keen right out of the gate in his first start in nine months, bounding to the lead under Eddie Castro. Up two lengths after a half mile in :45.37, Requite widened his margin in the stretch, stopping the timer in 1:09.18 for the six furlongs on a fast main track.
“He came back great. He broke sharp. I didn’t know we were going to be on the lead, but when they posted the 22-and-4 (seconds for the first quarter) and he was doing it that way, I thought I was the place to be,” trainer George Weaver said. “He opened up on them and got the job done. I thought he looked great off the layoff.”
Requite is now 4-1-0 in six starts and has earned $212,228 for Limestone Thoroughbreds Ltd.
Now a two-time stakes winner, Requite is one of the top-three lifetime leading earners for Warrior's Reward, who ranks in the top 10 on the 2016 Third Crop Sire list.
