Spendthrift acquires breeding interest in Tizway

Saturday, August 06, 2011

Spendthrift Farm announced the aquisition of multiple G1 winner Tizway for the 2012 breeding season. The grand-looking son of Tiznow recently captured the prestigious Whitney Handicap (G1) at Saratoga. In his prior start, the new-acclaimed millionaire impressively won the coveted Met Mile (G1) at Belmont.

“Tizway is a huge addition to the Spendthrift stallion ranks and we could not be more excited to be able to stand a horse of his caliber,” said Ned Toffey, Spendthrift Farm General Manager. “For him to follow up his stellar Met Mile (G1) victory with a win today over another great field in the Whitney (G1), one would have to say there is no finer older horse in the country.”

Tizway backed up his career-best 113 Beyer in the Met Mile with a 111 Beyer earned in the Whitney. The son of Tiznow also impressively captured the Kelso (G2) last fall at Belmont.

Campaigned by trainer James Bond and owner William Clifton Jr., Tizway will be pointed towards the Breeders' Cup before retiring to Spendthrift. Bond reported that his stable star exited the Whitney in good order and will point for either the Woodward (G1) at Saratoga or Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) at Belmont.
