Flat Footed Mama was anything but in Thursday’s opener at Del Mar, blasting to a 5 ¾-length maiden special weight victory to become Temple City’s ninth winner from his first crop.

With the year winding down, Temple City is solidly entrenched in the top 5 on the Freshman Sire list, with progeny earnings nearing $700,000. He is tied with fellow Spendthrift stallion Warrior’s Reward with five stakes horses in 2014, second-most among first year sires.

Flat Footed Mama made the winning move with about a quarter mile to run on the Del Mar turf. Third early on, she pulled on even terms two furlongs out, then drew clear to win with ease (VIDEO).

Flat Footed Mama is trained by her breeder Bob Baffert and owned by Baffert’s wife Jill. The California-bred filly is out of Whoopddoo, who placed in the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet S.
