Temple City firster takes Saratoga MSW

Temple City

Thursday, August 07, 2014
First-year sire Temple City got his second winner on Thursday in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight turf race at Saratoga (VIDEO).

Startup Nation, a 2-year-old colt bred in New York by Spendthrift Farm, took back off the pace going into the first turn and was some 10 lengths off a loose-on-the-lead Navy Blue. Joel Rosario swung Startup Nation three-wide into the stretch and reeled in Navy Blue at the furlong marker, then continued on with good energy to easily hold sway over Chief Kitten by two lengths on the wire.

Startup Nation is trained by Chad Brown for Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence. He is out of the Wagon Limit mare Pennyrile, a stakes-placed mare who bankrolled almost a quarter-million dollars.

Startup Nation was a $95,000 auction buy at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York Preferred Yearlings sale.
