Tiz Wonderful picked up his eleventh 2-year-old winner Saturday when his filly Oblahlah scored an impressive three-length victory in a $50,000 maiden special weight heat (VIDEO) at Churchill Downs.
Oblahlah, a $120,000 2-year-old purchase earlier this year, showed good early speed while stalking the pace down the backstretch of the seven-furlong race. The bay filly took command over the field of 11 turning for home and widened her advantage to be a clear and decisive winner at the wire. She stopped the clock in 1:23.37 on dirt, earning a very solid Beyer Speed Figure of 80 in just her second career start.
In her debut last month at Belmont, Oblahlah was fanned seven-wide in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight in the slop before closing willingly to be second. With better racing luck on Saturday, she was able to break through with an eye-catching win.
Trained by Eddie Kenneally, Oblahlah is now 1-1-0 from two starts with earnings of $43,600 for owner Joe Sutton. Out of the A.P. Indy mare Lady Nicholas, Oblahlah is a half-brother to Grade 3 winner Worth Repeating and was bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm. Her second dam in Macoumba, the dam of Spendthrift's leading sire Malibu Moon.
Tiz Wonderful currently ranks in the Top 10 in all major categories for Freshman Sires, including earnings, stakes winners, winners, Graded stakes winners and stakes horses.
