Spendthrift Farm's first-crop sire Tiz Wonderful had one of the most sought-after 2-year-olds at the OBS March sale, bringing the second-highest price of the final day of the March 13-14 event.
The dark bay or brown colt, hip No. 323, sold for $525,000 by agent John Moynihan on behalf of Barbara Banke of Stonestreet Stable. Banke is the widow of wine entrepreneur Jess Jackson who raced Curlin and Rachel Alexandra.
“He works beautiful, looks like a big two-turn horse,” Moynihan said. “He’s a lovely horse. He has a lot of his father’s attributes.”
The juvenile is out of the stakes-placed Kissin Kris mare Foolish Kiss. She is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Saintly Prospector.
Hip No. 271 was also a six-figure seller for Tiz Wonderful. The gray or roan filly sold for $145,000 to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and was consigned by Ronald Brewer.
