Treasured Up the MVP of $200,000 Robert Dick Memorial

Saturday, July 13, 2013
Spendthrift Farms LLC's Treasured Up got the biggest win of her career on Saturday at Delaware Park with a 1 3/4-length triumph in the 1 1/4-mile Robert Dick Memorial S. for older fillies and mares.

Treasured Up entered Saturday's race off a win in the $62,000 Keertana S. May 18 at Churchill Downs. The 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro was making her first start at 10 furlongs. The race was originally scheduled for the turf, but heavy rains moved it to the main track, reducing the field to half of it's original 10 entrants after five scratches.

The pace was slow, with Treasured Up in third after six furlongs in 1:16.78. Shaun Bridgmohan swung the 4-5 favorite around the duo in front of him after a mile in 1:41.67. The pacesetters couldn't match strides in the stretch, and Treasured Up drew away in the final furlong.

Spendthrift acquired Treasured Up for $450,000 at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling sale. Treasure Up is a half-brother to Choctaw Nation, two-time winner of the San Diego H. (G2). Their dam Melisma is a half-sister to Grade 2 Beaumont S. winner Her Temper.
