Strawberry Baby gamely battled back in the stretch after losing the lead to come home a one-length winner in Saturday’s $50,000 Big Easy S. at Fair Grounds.
The 4-year-old daughter of Warrior’s Reward has now won two stakes and five of nine overall starts.
In a 5 ½-furlong, off the turf contest, Strawberry Baby dueled through the first half-mile with Warriorscmoutoplay, another Warrior’s Reward stakes winner, in a rapid :46.09. Strawberry Baby powered to the front at that point, but was quickly engaged by Lindisfarne, who took the lead in mid-stretch. Strawberry Baby was not finished, though, and battled back to secure the win in 1:05.34 on a fast main track.
The winner is owned by Judy Miller and was bred in Kentucky by Liberation Farm and Brandywine Farm.
With 15 winners to date, Warrior’s Reward ranks seventh on this year’s Third-Crop Sire list.
