- A Grade one winning son of Leading Third-crop Sire Lion Heart.
-
From the Direct female line of Mr. Prospector.
-
Freshman sire Line of David is eligible for our Share The Upside Program. You can earn a lifetime breeding right while
paying nothing until 2012.
-
Last year Grade two winner Notional sold out, don't miss this chance on Grade one winner Line of David.
Share The Upside program (2 mares):
The breeder signs the Lifetime Breeding Right Contract along with a good-faith deposit of $300 to allow us to limit the number of contracts to 50. The breeder will nominate two mares for the 2011 season on standard Spendthrift breeding contracts at a special rate of $6,500 live foal each. Produce two live foals and pay the stud fees - THAT'S IT. Your free breeding right begins in 2012, and continues throughout the breeding life of the stallion. If a mare fails to produce a live foal you have the option to make up the breeding in 2012 and still get your breeding right.
Optional program (1 mare):
The breeder will sign and return the Lifetime Breeding Right Contract along with a good-faith deposit of $300. The breeder will nominate one mare for the 2011
season on a standard Spendthrift breeding contract
and one mare in 2012 at a special discounted price
of $6,900 live foal each. Your lifetime breeding right
will begin in 2013 provided you produce two live foals
and have paid the stud fees.
Hopefully the above descriptions will provide you enough details to make an informed decision.
If you have any questions please not hesitate to contact us.

Dear Breeder,
Let’s face it: It is difficult, if not impossible, to predict which stallions will be successful. We all remember that top stallions Distorted Humor, Storm Cat, Danzig and Mr. Prospector all started for relatively modest fees. I’m sure you can also remember some “can’t miss” stallions which never panned out. At best, it’s a gamble. But who is gambling? You, the mare owner.
The stud farm receives cash until the stallion proves successful or unsuccessful. They get cash either way. Then, if the stallion is successful, they win the lottery. The mare owner takes the gamble and the stud farm gets the cash. This is not logical. Spendthrift Farm is proposing a more level playing field, especially in this difficult time for the breeding industry.
We are announcing a new first-year stallion for 2011, Line of David. Winner of the Derby prep Grade 1 Arkansas Derby this year, he defeated three Grade 1 winners, including eventual Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. Line of David is from the direct female family of Mr. Prospector, and from one of Storm Cat’s most brilliant lines. He will stand for a fee of $7,500.
For you to consider this proposal you must believe that Line of David is suitable for one or more of your mares. You are invited to come to Spendthrift anytime to see for yourself. I believe in this horse and will support him with my own mares in 2011.
Sincerely,
B. Wayne Hughes
