Alan Porter Breeding Analysis for Gormley

Winner of the Frontrunner Stakes (gr. I) and Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), Gormley is the only son of Malibu Moon to win grade one events at two and three.

Malibu Moon has done very well with Roberto line mares, getting two grade one winners out of Red Ransom mares. He also has a graded winner out of a mare by Kris S. (sire of Arch), and a graded winner out of a mare by DynaformerRoberto is a Hail to Reason line stallion, and from the Halo branch of that line there is a grade one winner out of a mare by Southern Halo, and two graded winners from a mare by his son, More Than Ready, and a stakes winner out of a mare by Yankee Victor, a son of Saint Ballado.

Malibu Moon is out of a mare by Mr. Prospector, but has sired nearly 20 stakes winners, out of Mr. Prospector line mares. The Fappiano branch has provided the dams of Kentucky Derby winner Orb, who is out of a mare by Unbridled, and three stakes winners out of mares by Unbridled’s Song, including grade one winner Moonshine Memories. He has a stakes winner out of a mare by Real Quiet (sire of Midnight Lute), a graded winner out of a mare by that horse’s sire, Quiet American, and a graded winner out of a mare by Rubiano. From other branches of Mr. Prospector, the Gone West line has done well with a grade one winner out of a mare by Grand Slam, and stakes winners out of  mares by Elusive Quality and Speightstown. There is a grade one winner out of a mare by a son of Conquistador Cielo, graded winners out of mares by Kingmambo (sire of Lemon Drop Kid) and Distorted Humor, and a stakes winner from a daughter of Smart Strike.

Gormley is out of a mare by a son of Storm Cat, but Malibu Moon has done well with Storm Cat line mares, and crossing him back over sons and grandsons of Storm Cat is well worth considering. Harlan’s Holiday mares look interesting, and Tale of the CatGiant’s CausewayForest Wildcat and Hennessy all look like good sources. Malibu Moon has also done well with Northern Dancer through Deputy Minister, including Awesome Again and Silver Deputy. Other successful Northern Dancer sources include Danzig, who looks interesting via Belong to MeChief’s Crown and War Front; and Sadler’s Wells, including Horse Chestnut and El Prado, sire of Medaglia d’Oro and Kitten’s Joy.

From Blushing Groom line mares Malibu Moon has three stakes winners from daughters of Rahy, one a multiple grade one winner, and a grade two winner out of a mare by Mt. Livermore.
