Alan Porter’s 2020 Breeding Analysis for Hit It A Bomb
Undefeated winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at two, Hit It A Bomb was official rated one of the best two-year-olds of his crop in both the U.S. and Europe. He is by the international sire sensation, War Front, and is a brother to 2016 group one winner Brave Anna, one of Europe’s fastest two-year-old fillies.
War Front has enjoyed considerable success when bred over mares from the Mr. Prospector line. His spectacular son, Omaha Beach, is out of a mare by Seeking the Gold (sire of Mutakddim. Petionville and Cape Town). His grade one-winning son, The Factor, is out of a mare by Miswaki (sire of Black Tie Affair; grandsire of Formal Gold), and his grade one-winning daughter, Avenge, is out of a mare by the similarly-bred Woodman. War Front himself is out of a mare from the Fappiano branch through Rubiano, but he has been extremely good with mares from that line particularly through Unbridled, via Empire Maker (sire of Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister), Broken Vow, Grindstone (sire of Birdstone) and Unbridled’s Song (sire Rockport Harbor, First Defence, Old Fashioned, Half Ours, Dunkirk, Even The Score, Graydar and Songandaprayer. It could also be worth considering mares from the Quiet American branch, including through Midnight Lute, and those descending from Cryptoclearance (sire of Victory Gallop; grandsire of Candy Ride).
The cross with mares from the Forty Niner has been a grade one-producing one, and has worked through Distorted Humor (sire of Flower Alley, Sharp Humor, Drosselmeyer, Maclean’s Music and Jimmy Creed), Coronado’s Quest and Trippi, and can also be found through Editor’s Note, End Sweep, Jules, Luhuk, Gold Fever, Banker’s Gold, Roar and Twining. Mares by Fusaichi Pegasus – a horse bred like Distorted Humor – have also met with success under War Front line stallions.
There is a grade one winner out of a mare by Smart Strike, whose sons include Curlin, Lookin at Lucky and English Channel. There are graded stakes winners out of mares by Street Cry and his son Street Sense, with Street Boss being another source. A son of War Front has a grade one winner out of a mare by City Zip, a son of Carson City, and a stakes winner out of mare by Five Star Day, which also suggests daughters of Pollard’s Vision or Cuvee.
There is a War Front stakes winner out of a mare by Gone West as well as stakes winners from mares by that horses sons Speightstown (sire of Munnings) and Mr. Greeley, which would encourage trying mares by Grand Slam (sire of Limehouse), Elusive Quality (sire of Quality Road) and Proud Citizen.
Hit It A Bomb is a result of the very successful cross of Danzig line stallions with mares by Sadler’s Wells, and one might double that strain through El Prado, who is broodmare sire of a War Front graded winner, and sire of Medaglia d’Oro, Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller. It could also pay to introduce Nureyev, a three-quarters brother to Sadler’s Wells, and War Front has a stakes winner out of a mare Nureyev son, Theatrical, which suggests other Nureyev line horses such as Stravinsky, Atticus and Spinning World. War Front has also done well with Northern Dancer through Nijinsky II with a graded winner out of a mare by Alydeed (by Shadeed), and stakes winners out of mares by Strawberry Road and Caerleon, which also suggests daughters of Royal Academy. Northern Dancer is a three-quarters relative to Icecapade, and from the Clever Trick branch of that line War Front has a grade one winner out of a mare by Mazel Trick (by Phone Trick), and a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Clever Trick, also encouraging mares by Intidab, Caller I.D. and Favorite Trick.
War Front and sons have enjoyed tremendous success with mares by A.P. Indy and sons. Particularly effective has been the cross with daughters of Pulpit, which has produced at least eight stakes winners, and there is already also a stakes winner out of a mare by that horse’s son, Tapit (sire of Tapizar and Trappe Shot). Other sons of Pulpit include Sky Mesa and Stroll. There are also War Front stakes winners out of mares by Malibu Moon and Old Trieste, which also suggests trying daughters of Mineshaft, Flatter, Congrats and Bernardini.
The cross of War Front and sons with Roberto line mares has proved to be a very profitable won. There are six stakes winners, three grade one, out of mares by Arch, the sire of Blame. He is by Kris S. also sire of Brocco (broodmare sire of a War Front line stakes winner), Kissin Kris, Prized and Rock Hard Ten. There are two grade one winners by War Front out of mares by Roberto son Red Ransom, and two stakes winners out of mares by Dynaformer.
War Front carries Moon Glitter, sister to the influential sire, Relaunch, there are already three War Front line grade one winners with Relaunch in the dam. Omaha Beach has a double of that mare, so should particular like Relaunch. We can note that War Front has grade one winners out of mares by Relaunch line stallions Officer and Tiznow (sire of Tiz Wonderful, Colonel John, Gemologist and Tizway).
From the Blushing Groom line War Front has a champion out of a mare by Rahy and a grade two winner out of a mare by Housebuster (by Mt. Livermore, also the sire of Orientate), a champion out of a mare by Maria’s Mon (sire of Super Saver and Monarchos) and grade one winner out of a mare by Known Fact.
