Alan Porter Breeding Analysis for Hit It A Bomb

Undefeated winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. I) at two, Hit It A Bomb was officially rated one of the best two-year-olds in both the U.S. and Europe. He is by the international sire sensation, War Front, and is a brother to group one winner Brave Anna, one of Europe’s fastest two-year-old fillies.

War Front has enjoyed considerable success when bred over mares from the Mr. Prospector line. His grade one-winning son, The Factor, is out of a mare by Miswaki, and his grade one-wining daughter, Avenge is out of a mare by the similarly-bred Woodman, also suggesting Seeking the Gold.

War Front himself is out of a mare from the Fappiano branch through Rubiano, but has three stakes winners from mares by Fappiano grandson Unbridled’s Song (by Unbridled) and a graded winner out of a mare by Grindstone. This suggests other Fappiano line horses such as Broken VowEmpire Maker, Quiet American and Candy Ride. War Front also has a grade one winner out of a mare by Forty Niner, and a grade two winner out of a mare by that horse’s son, Coronado’s Quest; a grade one winner from a daughter of Smart Strike; a graded winner out of a mare by Street Cry; and stakes winners out of daughters of Kingmambo and Pulling Punches (by Two Punch, sire of Smoke Glacken). Other branches of Mr. Prospector worthy of consideration include Gone West (sire of SpeightstownMr. GreeleyGrand Slam and Elusive Quality), and Gulch. From another branch of the Raise a Native line – Majestic Light – War Front has a Champion out of a mare by Maria’s Mon.

Hit It A Bomb is a result of the very successful cross of Danzig line stallions with mares by Sadler’s Wells, and one might double that strain through El Prado (sire of Medaglia d’Oro and Kitten’s Joy). It could also pay to introduce Nureyev, a three-quarters brother to Sadler’s Wells.

Out of A.P. Indy line mares, War Front already has six stakes winners, including millionaire Departing, from daughters of Pulpit (sire of Tapit), and graded winners out of mares by A.P. Indy and Old Trieste, suggesting other sources of A.P. Indy, such as Malibu MoonMineshaft, CongratsFlatter and Bernardini. From the Roberto line there are graded winners out of daughters of Red Ransom and Arch (by Kris S.), and a graded winner from a Dynaformer mare. War Front champion, Declaration of War, is one of two graded winners out of mares by Rahy, from the Blushing Groom line, and from the same sire line he also has a grade two winner from a daughter of Housebuster (by Mt. Livermore). From the In Reality line, War Front has grade one scorers from daughters of Known Fact and Tiznow.
