Into Mischief led Friday’s results on the final day of the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-olds in Training sale when hip No. 967 brought a winning bid of $1.3 million.

Randy Hartley and Dean DeRenzo, bidding on behalf of a new partnership of owners, signed the ticket for the colt as More Play. The colt was consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables.

The final figure was one of only three horses during the four-day auction to sell for seven figures. The bay colt is the 13th $1 million-plus horse by Into Mischief from this current crop.

“(More Play) are looking for horses like this, that if this horse hits a graded stakes, he will be a stallion. He went :9 3/5, unbelievable. He’s a super-fast horse and super good-looking.”

“We thought he was one of the nicest horses we’ve ever had our hands on,” Dunne said after bidding ended. “He trained like a good horse. I thought his breeze was magnificent. To be honest, I think they got a bargain.”

Bred by Spendthrift Farm, the bay juvenile is out of Singing Kitty, who was a three-time stakes winner in Southern California.

After four straight years leading the General Sire list, Into Mischief is once again in the familiar spot with over $8.1 million in progeny earnings through the first four months of 2023. He has a big chance to add to those totals this upcoming weekend with Pretty Mischievous in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and the duo of Rocket Can and Sun Thunder in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
