Mor Spirit, whose first foals are yearlings of 2021, had an excellent start to the 2021 yearling auction season at Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton July sale, with five lots selling for an average of $101,400.

Topping the list was the Spendthrift-bred and Eaton Sales consignee hip No. 44, a colt that sold for $200,000 to Woodford Thoroughbreds.

The colt has a stellar female family, out of the Malibu Moon mare Malibu Cove, who is a full sister to graded stakes winner Prospective and the dam of the Brody’s Cause Grade 2 winner Kalypso.

Slightly earlier in the session Mor Spirit’s first lot to sell on Tuesday was hip No. 23, a colt consigned by Legacy Bloodstock, agent, and purchased by Redwings for $160,000.

The chestnut juvenile, already named Mor Speed, is a half-brother to stakes-placed Red Raider. His second dam is Freefourracing, a graded winner in England and stakes winner in the U. S.

Mor Spirit, who stands for $5,000 live foal S&N, earned more than $1.6 million, including wins in the stallion-making Met Mile H. (G1) and the Cashcall Futurity (G1), a race won by Spendthrift’s champion sire Into Mischief.
