In a harbinger of bigger things to come for First-Crop sire Gormley, a filly by the Spendthrift stallion registered a top bid of $250,000 during the early part of Wednesday’s session of the OBS 2-year-olds in Training sale.

The filly, hip No. 371 consigned by Eddie Woods, agent, was the second-highest price paid for a filly by a freshman sire at the two-day auction.

Gary Contessa was the winning bidder for the chestnut juvenile, who had worked a furlong in 10 seconds flat during the Under Tack show. She was bred by Jose Luis Espinoza and sold for $47,000 at the 2020 OBS October sale.

A January foal, the filly is out of graded stakes winner Beat the Blues.

Gormley wrapped up the OBS sale with an average hammer price of $153,857, more than 10 times his bred-on stud fee.
