$290,000 colt tops excellent KEENOV sale for Vekoma

Vekoma, whose first foals are weanlings this year, had 8 lots bring at least six figures during the Keeneland November sale, with a colt by the multiple Grade 1 winner topping the list at $290,000.

Among the six-figure youngsters were three session-toppers.

The first session topper came on Nov. 12 when hip No. 2205 brought a winning bid of $215,000 from Frankie’s Stable. The filly was consigned by Grovendale Sales, agent. The chestnut filly’s dam Truckstop Diamond is a half-sister to the Jimmy Creed stakes winner Meadow Dance.

Vekoma topped the Sunday, Nov. 13 session as well, with hip No. 2355, consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent for Susan Anderson Racing, going to Oreo Racing for $290,000. The colt is out of stakes winner Female Drama, whose four starters are all winners, including stakes placed Startfdfromdabottom.

On Nov. 15, Christina R. Jelm, agent, purchased hip No. 3178, who was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent. The colt brought a winning bid of $130,000 to top the day. He is the third foal out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Gypsy Grey. The colt, bred by H & E Ranch, is from the family of Grade 1 winner Chief Honcho.

Vekoma, winner of both the Metropolitan H. (G1) and Carter H. (G1) at four, will stand the 2023 season for $15,000 live foal.
