First-crop sire Can the Man had just one juvenile in Monday’s session of the March 13-14 OBS 2-year-olds in Training Sale, but came away with one of the best prices for a first-year sire when hip No. 203 brought a winning bid of $230,000.

The price was a hefty 46 times his bred-on stud fee of $5,000.

Parrish Farms, agent consigned the colt, which went to leading buyer Dennis O’Neill. The dark bay tipped his hand when he breezed an eighth-mile in just 10 seconds at the Under Tack Show.

The Kentucky-bred is out of Brittney Brat, dam of stakes winner Yucca and stakes-placed Bruvver Max. Brittney Brat is a half-sister to millionaire Silver Goblin.

Can the Man’s first three years at stud included more 320 mares bred. His first juveniles will race this spring.
