Sassy C W dug in late to win the $100,000 Prairie Gold Lassie S. on July 4 at Prairie Meadows to run her record to a perfect three-for-three.

The 2-year-old daughter of Yaupon, who was named a TDN Rising Star following her debut win April 30 at Churchill Downs, subsequently won the $150,000 Astoria S. June 5 at Saratoga.

In Friday’s 5 ½-furlong contest, Sassy C W went immediately to the lead as she rolled through fractions of :21.80 and :44.79. The very quick pace took some punch out of her closing kick, but she showed her resolve to hold off Best Friend by a neck in 1:04.72 on a fast track.

A $375,000 OBS March grad for Carolyn Wilson, who co-owns the filly with Patricia’s Hope LLC, Sassy C W has earned $184,200 in her three wins. She was bred in Kentucky by Harun Kahraman.

Yaupon, the top-ranked First-Crop sire also got his third maiden special weight winner Friday when Strong Potential won a 5 ½-furlong race at Ellis Park. The dark bay colt was making his career debut for Kirk and Judy Robinson. Bred by Norevale Farm & Jacalyn Tillman, Strong Potential is the first foal out of Two for One, who is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Know More.
